Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd provides many teachings and learning opportunities. Our core purpose for faith formation of all ages at LCGS is simple: go and make disciples. Jesus taught us this when he said:
God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 the Message)
LCGS has a goal to make disciples through Baptism, engaging with God’s story, equipping God’s people of all ages to see God’s presence in their own stories, use their gifts, and providing many opportunities to experience God in everyday life especially through Word and Sacrament.
Baptism
Your child’s faith journey begins with Baptism. Your child is welcome at our Baptismal font where our congregation will commit to helping you raise your child in the faith. On this special day we will send you on with tools to help you begin teaching your child and giving them the gift of faith.
Children
Engage: We gather for worship at 9:00 a.m. and Faith Formation (Engage) at 10:15 a.m. Engage is geared towards children from BIRTH – 5th GRADE. We come together to engage with scripture in the midst of our worship week, but also how we will engage scripture in the work/school week ahead of us.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is each summer, combined with other ELCA churches in Eau Claire. Any child who completed K through 5th grade can register to join in the fun with kids from Hope, Spirit and St. John’s Lutheran Churches. A snack will be provided. We will have fun with games, crafts, songs, and Bible stories!
Registration forms can be found in the office, print the registration form and get it back to the office or register online. Contact the church office if you have any questions.
Confirmation
Confirmation is 6-8th grade, meeting on Wednesday evenings. Sometimes we meet as one large group and other times we are in our own age group. We learn, serve and spend time together. Our 9th grade students will be confirmed in the fall on Reformation Sunday or during Advent.
Senior High
Our group partners with students from Spirit Lutheran Church meeting on Sundays. We create a safe place for youth to come to express themselves and have fun together. We meet at many locations throughout the school year, have retreats and mission trips.
Adult Studies
Pastor has a text study every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. He is looking ahead to the Sunday readings each week. Join him for an hour as well as stick around for lunch – bring your own!
