Am I Enough?

“My teaching is not mine but his who sent me.” John 7:16
Have you ever been volun-told that you were going to be a leader at
church? Maybe you were semi-forced to teach a Vacation Bible School
class or be a confirmation mentor. Maybe you were guilted into serving
on your congregational council. Perhaps someone strongly suggested that
you should lead a bible study. What was your reaction? I can imagine
something like, “What!? I’m not qualified for that!”
In this passage from John’s gospel, Jesus reminds the temple authorities
that his authority doesn’t come from him, but from God. In the same
way, we know that we can count on the Holy Spirit to assist us when we
are in positions of leadership in the church. Being qualified doesn’t have
to mean having an advanced degree. It might just mean being humble
enough to ask God for help and guidance.
Guiding God, fill us with your Spirit and help us to seek for your counsel
in all that we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
